Florida Hospital of Zephyrhills

Open Heart Surgery Unit / ER Relocation & Expansion

Florida Hospital of Zephyrhills, formerly East Pasco Medical Center, chose Doster as Construction Manager for this major expansion. The project consists of an Open Heart addition, 4th Floor addition, ER expansion, Women’s Center renovation, CVICU renovation, construction of a new catheterization lab, renovation of the existing catheterization lab, an addition to the existing outpatient lobby and admissions department, renovation of the respiratory therapy department, and a new lobby for the Heart Institute. Florida Hospital of Zephyrhills is part of the Adventist Health System.

Once the open heart surgery unit opens at Florida Hospital of Zephyrhills, hospital officials expect to perform at least 300 open heart surgeries and 500 angioplasties a year. The hospital received state approval for the open heart surgery program in 2002, and design of the project began. Doster performed preconstruction services to provide budgeting for the project as the design of the project progressed.

This project was outstanding in that it started earlier than expected, finished earlier than expected, and met all the Owner’s expectations. It included multiple phases and major items of additional work that the Owner directed us to complete. In addition, the project was the Hospital’s largest and most comprehensive since the facility was originally constructed.
