Doster was
selected to construct Crest Hummer of Birmingham’s new dealership. The
project included the construction of a new 16,360 square foot showroom
for the Hummer vehicle and the addition of a new 10,000 square foot
parts storage area and six new service bays to the existing Crest
Cadillac facility.
The Hummer showroom design called for an open showroom area framed by an
exposed structural steel skeleton, in filled with glass. With the help
of the architect, structural engineer, and the supplier, the entire
structural steel package was fast-tracked through detailing, submittal,
and fabrication phases. This fast-tracked schedule was accomplished
despite the incredible complexity of the structure; radius beams around
the perimeter of the building, with most of the steel architecturally
exposed steel.
The project was special due to the innovative and challenging
construction methods, materials used, unique design, aggressive
schedule, and critical phasing requirements. The project was
successfully completed within budget and ten days ahead of the
contracted completion date.
