Doster was selected as low bidder on this new $35
million, 200,000 square foot high school for the Birmingham City Board
of Education. Construction also includes sitework, complete
refurbishment of the existing competition gymnasium, and construction of
a new practice gymnasium. After demolition of the old school and
construction of new school is completed, a new competition football
stadium will be constructed.
The new school will house 54 classrooms and three laboratories, band
room, choral room, state-of-the-art library and media center, kitchen,
cafeteria, a dining hall with seating for 300 students and a 750-seat
auditorium with an extended stage.
The vocational wing will include a welding shop, electronics shop,
cosmetology, culinary lab, art room, and family consumer sciences lab.
Offices for the principals and counselors, conference rooms, reception
and the teacher lounge will be located in the administrative area.
Renovation and expansion to the existing gym includes a 1,400-seat
competition gym, a new 7,000 square foot practice gym, four locker
rooms, weight rooms and ROTC shooting range.
The football stadium will be built on the site of the old high school
after demolition. The football stadium area include a new football
field, track, 3,900-seat stands (2,900 home and 1,000 visitor), and
separate home and visitor concession stands. |
