Morgan County Jail
Decatur, Alabama
Doster Construction Company served as Construction Manager for the new Morgan County Jail in Decatur, Alabama. The 102,000 square foot, 419-bed facility contains an administration building, sheriff offices, two outdoor exercise areas and four pods (two male and two female).
The administration building houses a complete medical area including an x-ray room, exam rooms, a dental room and a full-service laundry facility with four industrial-sized washers and dryers. It also has a large kitchen with dry food storage, food preparation equipment and a walk-in freezer. A unique feature of this administration building is the video visitation rooms, which allows guests to interact with inmates remotely by video.
The second floor contains offices for the sheriff, homeland security, captain, chief, clerk, narcotics and evidence departments. State-of-the art amenities are located throughout the facility.
To keep the project within the budget allocated by the Morgan County Commission, Doster worked with the architect through the planning and preconstruction phases. The $21 million project was completed in 2006.
This project was the recipient of two 2005 Associated Builders and Contractors awards in the Alabama and Mid-Tennessee chapters.
