Spring Hill College - Marnie & John Burke Memorial Library
Mobile, AL
The three-story Marmie & John Burke Memorial Library is a 71,005 square foot facility that met the goals of Spring Hill College by creating a shared learning space that combines academics and information technology under a common roof. It also provided students with increased resources. The library is a government document viewing library that provides greater access for the general public to view and research government documents. Doster Construction Company met the vision of the College's President, Father Greg Lucey by making the new library the cornerstone of the campus.
The exterior of the building is comprised of a traditional finish. The library interior has 21 unique and vibrant paint colors, many ceiling coves and wall reveals which required level 5 finishes. The entrance lobby and monumental staircase have imported Brazilian slate. The entire project has over $400,000 of custom designed and finished architectural millwork.
Two specific quality objectives set forth before the project began included the certification of exterior air and vapor barrier along with premium grade millwork construction. The millwork had to meet AWI premium grade specifications.
This $11.5 million project was finished ahead of schedule.
