Tennessee State University - Avon Williams Campus
Nashville, Tennessee
The Tennessee Board of Regents selected Doster Construction Company as the Construction Manager for improvements to Tennessee State University's Avon Williams campus. Located in downtown Nashville, the project encompassed upgrades of the building code and life safety compliance for the entire four-story building. Using a four-phase approach the original mechanical, electrical and fire protection systems were demolished and upgrades were reinstalled. A fire pump and generator were included in the installation. The main building and penthouse received new roofing, the plaza area was repaved and waterproofed, improvements were made to classroom and faculty office spaces with new finishes throughout.
After completion of the initial improvements, TSU extended Doster's contract by adding a second phase to the work, consisting of an Auditorium & Student Commons Renovation project. This work, which consisted of the renovation of the existing 14,400 square foot auditorium, included the removal and installation of new fixed audience seating and removal and installation of new light fixtures, including directional lighting. Acoustical sound panels were added on the ceilings and walls, as well as new floor covering and audio visual system. The student commons area work included the removal of the existing quarry tile and installation of a new terrazzo floor.
