Doster has completed the construction of Wallace State Community College’s new state-of-the-art School of Nursing and Center for Science. The new facility houses the college’s acclaimed nursing program along with the popular biology department and related health and science classes. Constructed on the northern edge of the Hanceville, Alabama campus, the 118,000 sf building consists of four separate two-story wings connected by a common circulation core. The School of Nursing is home to 38,650 sf of learning space, a 9,800 sf simulation center, and 7,500 sf of lecture space.  The simulation center is designed to replicate a hospital environment and contains multiple instructional and training labs including: ICU, Pediatric, Labor & Delivery, Triage/ trauma simulation, nursing stations, debriefing rooms, fundamentals bed labs along with an ambulance portico. The Center for Science houses 35,800 sf of state-of-the-art biology, microbiology, and anatomy and physiology learning labs and classrooms, and will accommodate future development of a biotech program. “This new building is amazing,” said Wallace State sophomore Courtney James, a pre-dental hygiene student.  Students began classes at the new facility on January 8. Doster Construction Company was the general contractor and the building was designed by William Blackstock Architects.
