Doster has been awarded the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s new $35 million Hill Student Center. The new facility replaces the Hill University Center (HUC) at the corner of University Boulevard and 14th Street and is expected to be complete for the Fall 2015 semester. The new 159,000 square foot, 4-story student center will consist of a food service and dining area, performance lounge, retail store, book store, outdoor patio dining, coffee shop, 280-seat theater, meeting rooms, office suites, 7,000 square foot multi-purpose room, and an exterior third-floor balcony. The project also includes the demolition and replacement of an existing parking lot, site paving, and landscaping. The Hill Student Center is scheduled to begin construction on March 1, 2014. “Excitement for the construction of a new student center is building,” said Carolyn Farley, director of Academic and Student Services. “What we’re going to get is going to create a much better student experience.” Doster Construction Company is the project’s general contractor with Birmingham’s Herrington Architects in partnership with Hastings & Chivetta as the architects of record.
