On Monday, June 23, the Jefferson County Commission held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open its new 32,000-square-foot Coroner/Medical Examiner’s Office, located on Leaf Lake Boulevard off Lakeshore Parkway in Birmingham. Designed by Poole & Company Architects in collaboration with MWL Architects and constructed by Doster Construction, this facility is built to serve the county’s needs for the next 30 years—with room for future expansion.

Built to meet the county’s needs for the next 30 years, the new facility includes enhanced examination and storage capabilities, a private drive-through port for discreet body transfers, and a CT scanner—making it one of the few coroner’s offices in the country equipped for advanced, on-site imaging.

Additional features include an isolation room for infectious cases, a conference room for training with law enforcement and legal teams, and a private family meeting area.

Doster is proud to have partnered with Jefferson County and the design team on this important project that strengthens the county’s public health and safety infrastructure.
