Doster Construction has broken ground on a $78 million renovation and expansion project for Livingston Hospital in Salem, Kentucky—a major investment in the future of rural healthcare across Livingston County and the surrounding region.
Hospital officials, community leaders, and staff gathered on Thursday, April 23, 2026, to mark the milestone, celebrating the start of a project designed to expand access to high-quality care close to home.
Designed to enhance both access and patient experience, the project includes approximately 66,000 square feet of new construction positioned at the front of the existing facility. The expansion will create a new main entrance and a modernized patient care environment built to support both current and future healthcare needs.
The new facility will house key clinical services, including Emergency, Radiology, Lab, Med/Surg patient rooms, Surgery and Minor Procedures, a Post-Anesthetic Care Unit, and Central Sterile Processing. Renovations to the existing hospital will support Oncology/Infusion, Cardiac Rehabilitation, and a new Pharmacy, while additional areas will be repurposed to improve operational efficiency across the campus.
“Livingston Hospital has long been committed to serving this community with compassion and excellence,” said Shane Whittington, CEO of Livingston Hospital. “This new facility represents our continued investment in the health and well-being of our region. It allows us to grow alongside our community and ensure patients can receive high-quality care without having to travel far from home.”
Whittington noted the importance of the project at a critical time for rural healthcare, emphasizing its role in protecting and expanding access to care in the region.
This project reflects years of planning and a shared commitment to strengthening rural healthcare—ensuring patients can access advanced services locally rather than traveling outside the region.
Doster is proud to partner with Livingston Hospital on a project that will serve the community for generations.
Construction is now underway, with updates to follow as progress continues.
